LPMA/CLC – Autumn Pairs Golf Tournament Thursday 13 September 2018 at The Temple Golf Club

Congratulations and thanks are due to Nic Birtles (IT) who organised the 2018  joint LPMA /CLC Golf Societies golf tournament at Temple GC on behalf of MagnaMasters, the "honour" falling to Nic as last year's joint winner.

A glorious sunny day welcomed some 28 players to Temple Golf Club which must qualify as one of England's prettiest courses with many holes and the clubhouse overlooking the Thames Valley at Marlow.

The honours did not flow to MagnaMasters this time around despite fielding three pairs for the competition

MMA golfers’ success at RAC on 5 September 2017: Open to CartaConsorts next year

MagnaMasters, thanks to Roger and Christine North (Water Conservators), hosted the annual autumn meeting of the Livery Past Masters Association (LPMA) at the RAC course, Epsom on 5 September 2017. Combined with the City Livery Club (CLC) the meeting attracted 35 participants and was hailed a big success.  We had five MagnaMasters taking part with Roger and Nic Birtles (Information Technologists) winning the Past Masters Association Pairs Competition for MagnaMasters for the second year running. To add further MMA glory, Jim Conybeare (Master Mariners) took the prize for the Nearest the Pin. The competition will be open to ladies next year when once again the hosts will be MagnaMasters with the job of organising passing to Nic Birtles. Well done Roger and Christine....and good luck Nick!

MagnaMasters represented at LPMA Spring Cup

Two MagnaMasters,  Roger North (Water Conservators) and Nick Birtles (Information Technologists) took part in the Livery Past Masters Association (LPMA) golf event at Sandy Lane on  27 April.  Roger reports: It was a good day if a bit on the chilly side!  Sandy Lodge is a challenging course especially the greens which were very fast but very true. The two Magna Masters out of the 19 players. We weren't in the prizes unfortunately.

I mentioned the autumn meeting to be at the RAC in Epsom on 5 September. At present Jeremy Balcombe and I will be defending the trophy we won last year.

As well as you, Nic Birtles, Rodney Benyon and Jim Conybeare have said they will be playing. If you like I will put you in pairs.

 Earlier golfing news

Roger North (Water Conservators) and Jeremy Balcombe (Tin Plate Workers) were the winners of the Past Masters Associations pairs trophy at Sonning on 23 September 2016 with the joint highest score of the day of 45. A fine achievement and congratulations to them.  The joint winners received the City Livery Club Trophy. Ian Locks (Stationers), playing with a guest, won the prize for the highest singles score after winners of other prizes had been eliminated. He was to have paired with Rodney Bennion (Lightmongers) who had to withdraw on health grounds. It is hoped to combine with this event next year for a MagnaMasters Golf Day if enough support can be found. Roger is pictured with the trophy, with Jeremy inset and Ian below.

MagnaMasters Success in Lord Mayor's Charity Golf Day -  Monday 11 July 2016

Roger North reports: We entered a MagnaMasters team into the Lord Mayor's Charity Golf Day on 11 July at Stoke Park. There were 90 players in teams of four from the City, the Livery Companies, Past Masters and the City Livery Club. It was a great day which raised around £13,000 for the Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal.

The weather was brilliant and our golf wasn't bad either! Our team  was Jim Conybeare (Master Mariners) Rodney Bennion (Lightmongers) Darren Sutton (guest of Rodney) and me, Roger North (Water Conservators). We were successful in winning the Best Back Nine Team Prize and I came second in the individual competition. So not a bad day at the office!

Pictured are Darren, Jim, Rodney and Roger, the magnificent tankards they won for having the best back nine score ...and Roger's certifcate and bubbly prize for coming second overall.  Well done the team!
